AUA Bike Precinct

About the All-Abilities Bike Precinct

A Hub of Inclusivity and Fun

The AUA All-Abilities Bike Precinct is an exciting community initiative that offers a space for children and families of all abilities to engage in cycling and active recreation. This unique project, located behind Evatt Primary School, has been made possible through the tireless efforts of volunteers, community advocates, and Abilities Unlimited Australia (AUA). The precinct is designed to be a place where everyone, regardless of ability, can enjoy the outdoors and develop essential life skills through cycling.

Stage 1: The Dirt Bike Trails

The project is divided into two stages, each designed to provide opportunities for cyclists of all skill levels.

Stage 1 introduced the Dirt Bike Trail, which features beginner and intermediate loops, technical elements, and exciting features like bumps and berms. Funded by AUA, this trail allows children to safely develop their skills in a structured, inclusive environment. Programs like AUA's Cyclabilities use the trail to teach progressive cycling skills, from balance bike riding to mastering off-road techniques such as cornering, jumps, and gear changes. Supported by the Evatt Primary School and ACT Government Bumps and Berms volunteer program, this stage has already transformed how children approach cycling, instilling confidence and resilience.

Stage 2: Wide Path Accessibility

Building on the success of Stage 1, Stage 2 focuses on universal accessibility, incorporating wider paths and adaptive features. These paths cater to cyclists of all abilities, including those with physical or sensory challenges, ensuring a safe, inclusive environment. This stage aligns with global safety standards, featuring tactile and auditory signals to assist those with special needs. The Road-Safety Learn-to-Ride Track offer a secure environment for children to gain essential road safety knowledge, further supporting community health and wellbeing.

The All-Abilities Bike Precinct is more than a place to ride—it's a community hub fostering physical health, social interaction, and inclusion for all.
